Dear Grandpa and Grandma, (Ken & Diane Ramey)
Since the very first time I ever came to Kenya, almost 8 years ago now, I have longed for you to come and take part with us in what the Lord is doing here! But over the past couple months, God has really been laying this heavily on Martin and my hearts more than ever before. We have been talking, dreaming, and praying about all the exploits we could do together for the Lord in Africa.
I’m writing now to sincerely request that you and your prayer partners begin to pray about this possibility with us and listen to what God will tell you about it. The gifts that God has given both of you are perfectly tailored for the very work we are doing here and we believe with all our hearts that there is so much we could all glean from each other that would ultimately make each of us better ministers, better equipped to rock the world for Jesus. Most importantly of course, we believe that by us working together, literally tens of thousands of Kenyans could come to Salvation.
We understand that the obstacles are many, time being one of them, and we don’t
make this request lightly. Fortunately our God specializes in impossibilities and that is why we simply ask you to pray so that we might all act only according to His perfect will. If you could sacrifice one month and come, I believe it would ultimately greatly benefit the work you are doing in the U.S. and that your lives would be touched and changed just as much as the people you would reach here for the Lord.
If God confirms this in your hearts and in the hearts of your ministry partners, we will trust Him together to provide everything that’s needed to make your coming possible, including finances. We have a wonderful travel agent who will get us a special missionary rate for your airfare, as well as special luggage allowances, usually 3 fifty pound bags per passenger. I would estimate the cost of airfare to be about $1,500 round trip per person. You may need a couple immunizations, which insurance may or may not cover. And you will each need a visa, which you purchase at the Kenyan border upon arrival for $50 each. Those would be the only major expenses and we can talk more in detail as the Lord leads us.
There are countless ministry opportunities here that are suited to your many gifts. We could arrange a big evangelistic crusade where you could preach to thousands of “pre-believers” every afternoon. There is also what we call “we go to them” evangelism. That means we target places that are already crowded with people, like a market or busy town center and we go right to the middle of it, set up a couple speakers and start preaching the gospel. I know it sounds hard to believe, but this is very effective! We would also arrange youth conferences and/or camps, pastor’s conferences, church-wide conferences, and revival meetings. The possibilities are endless and it would really be up to you to and God to tell us where you feel most led to serve. There are also ample hospital ministry opportunities, as I know this is a gift and passion Grandma has. We could organize for her to go into some of the most hopeless, desperate situations to pray for and minister to the sick and dying. She would also provide invaluable help in our ministry to young and expectant mothers with her wealth of knowledge and experience.
We feel responsible to share with you what God has been putting on our hearts and to ask you to pray with us about this wild and wonderful dream. We will do the possible and trust God to do what He will. It will be so exciting to see how it unfolds. We love you and look forward to all that God has in store! Isn’t it amazing to be His?!
Love,
Martin and Jannekah Guya
