To the Pastor

To Pastors and leaders in the local churches of America ~ ~

Statistics show that evangelism in the American church has been dying a slow death.

Dear Pastor,

My wife and I have been serving the Lord as a Local Church evangelism coach for nearly 4 years.  Our ministry is endorsed by the Billy Grahams’ Center of Evangelism at Wheaton College.  I am also a member of the Luis Palau’s Next Generation Alliance of evangelists.  Presently, we are living in McMinnville, OR and serving churches on the West Coast.  We live in our large and ‘homey’ motor-home which allows us to be mobile.

Presently, I am serving as an evangelism coach at Church on the Hill in McMinnville, OR.  Please read Pastor Jerry Moen’s letter to me on my web site.

The most recent statistic I have found is that 97% of Christians in Bible-believing, evangelical churches in America do very little witnessing of their faith in Jesus Christ.

If we as humans cease to reproduce, we will become extinct.

The same is true of our spiritual lives. As Christians, if we quit sharing what we know about Jesus and helping others to become “born” into the family, we will also become extinct.

Many churches in America today are experiencing a decline or plateau in their membership, primarily because the existing members are not reproducing spiritually.

As a result of this, many churches have decided to have either ‘programmed’ outreach and/or ‘platform evangelism.’   But this cannot and will not absolve the individual Christ follower of his or her mandate to personally evangelize or witness.

“All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”  2 Corinthians 5:18-20

Jesus gave us clear direction on this point in both the book of Mark and the book of Matthew. “Go into the entire world and preach the Gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15 & “Go and make disciples of all nations…” Matthew 28:19.

Jesus did not say, follow me and I will make you a rich man.  Jesus did not say, follow me and I will make you a great preacher or missionary.  Jesus did not say, follow me and I will make you famous.  Jesus did not say, follow me and I will keep you from pain and sorrow.

Jesus DID say, “Come follow me and I will show you how to fish for people.”  Mark 4:19

Every Christ follower has a responsibility to tell others what we have learned about Jesus and help them to follow His teachings.
We firmly believe that a local church pastor’s call is to 2 congregations:

First is the congregation of people (men, women, boys & girls) who the Lord has entrusted into his care within the membership of the church.

Secondly, is the congregation of those who are within the sphere of influence or ‘world’ of the church members who are outside of Christ and the Church.  I like to call these “pre-Christians.”

The purpose of this letter/email is to tell you that my present mission as a former pastor, youth pastor and missionary is to come alongside you, Pastor, and help you stir your people, your congregation to understand what living ‘missionally’ is and decide to become a missionary in his or her personal world – their workplace, neighborhood, school and friendship groups.

My passion and niche in ministry is to partner with the pastor & church leadership and coach the church in the area of evangelism.

The Lord is blessing our work!

I would like to hear from you and schedule a conversation over coffee in order that we can discuss how we can partner together to reach your 2nd congregation with the gospel.

If you have read this far, you are interested.  We do not charge for our ministry to your church.  The Lord has provided our support through local churches and individual Prayer Partners.

‘til the nets are full,
